He now looks forward to his next challenge.Īsked what he hopes to provide as AD, Adams said, “probably to maintain, and hopefully expand on the success of our athletic programs.” So while the passion burns inside of me, sure it is very difficult to walk away from Nottingham football.”Īdams credited wife Elaine for being his “rock” throughout the ups and downs of coaching, and takes tremendous pride in being the first football coach at Nottingham to win a state crown. Our seniors last year were a special group to me personally and I missed so many special moments with them because I was recovering. I felt awful not being there every day with the team and able to be at all the practices because of my rehab and doctor’s appointments. Ironically, I was never injured in a game or practice. I cannot take a chance and get hurt again. But I would be a liability to the program because of my recent injuries. “So with all that being said, it hurts to stop coaching. I take tremendous pride in the fact that when they leave that they are a better person than before I met them. “I played ball with these kids’ fathers – maybe even their grandfathers and uncles, cousins. “What means the most to me is that I coached the people from my neighborhood where I grew up,” Adams said. He admitted to some “bumps in the road” along the way but leaves the program on solid ground and takes with him memories for a lifetime. We had no identity.”Īdams slowly turned things around by bringing in quality assistants and upgrading the strength and conditioning program. People snickered when they saw my sweatshirt or hat. “When I took over there was nothing that said winner about this program,” Adams said. Asked what memories he will have of football, the former coach proudly spoke of taking over a downtrodden program and turning it into a state sectional champion earlier this decade. Having graduated from Steinert, most of Adams football career was spent on Klockner Road (except for four years at Glassboro State, now Rowan University). Principal Frank Ragazzo feels Adams is a perfect fit for the position. To be honest, I never really thought about becoming an AD, but I had a friend who believed in me and motivated me to pursue this opportunity.”Īdams takes over for Nicholas Serritella, who spent the last two years as interim AD after Dee Taylor retired. “I am excited and look forward to the challenge. I will give them the same relentless effort and passion for this job that I have given for the past 32 years. ![]() I am honored that the Nottingham administration and board of education believes in me enough to present me with this opportunity. “I have been given a chance to help our athletic program to pass on what I have learned to our coaching staff. “I am grateful for the opportunity,” Adams said. His football replacement will come from his staff and has been submitted to the board, which will approve all district coaches at the July meeting. Adams served as the Northstars’ head football coach for the past 29 years, and was the boys head track & field coach the past several years after a long stint as an assistant.
